Why My Brain Works Better at 195 lbs Than at 210

On paper, the difference between 210 lbs and 195 lbs doesn’t look like much.

Same person.
Same brain.
Same life.

From the inside, it’s not even close.

At 210, my thinking felt like:

  • running heavy code on constrained hardware,
  • everything technically worked,
  • but there was constant lag, noise, and friction.

At 195, it feels like:

  • the same architecture on upgraded infrastructure,
  • more headroom,
  • less background noise,
  • sharper edges.

I didn’t get here because I cared about aesthetics.
I got here because I hit a point where:

If I wanted to build the systems I was building — and be the father I want to be — I couldn’t afford to treat my body as a separate concern from my brain.

This is the honest version of that shift.


The 210 lbs Version of Me: Functional but Friction-Full

At ~210, my life looked fine from the outside:

  • working,
  • parenting,
  • building,
  • handling estate.

I could:

  • get through long days,
  • show up to meetings,
  • make progress on RFS/MAIA/AIDF,
  • handle crises.

But internally, the friction was everywhere:

  • sleep was lighter and more fragmented,
  • focus windows were shorter,
  • recovery from stress took longer,
  • small annoyances tipped me into impatience faster.

Thinking felt:

  • dense,
  • foggy on the edges,
  • harder to sustain on complex topics.

I could still see structure — incentives, failure modes, architecture — but holding it all in my head for long stretches was harder than it needed to be.

The truth was simple:

  • I was trying to run a high‑complexity mental workload on a body that wasn’t configured for it.

No amount of “mental toughness” was going to fix that.


The Choice That Didn’t Feel Optional Anymore

The moment the number started to matter wasn’t when I looked in a mirror.
It was when I looked at:

  • the work in front of me,
  • the kids I was raising,
  • the systems I was trying to design.

I realized:

  • I was asking my brain to operate at a level that was fundamentally incompatible with the way I was treating my body.

That mismatch showed up as:

  • more coffee, less sleep,
  • more sitting, less movement,
  • more strain, less margin.

At some point, it stopped being a vibe and became an engineering problem:

  • the hardware was the bottleneck.

So I stopped framing it as:

  • “I should lose some weight,”

and started framing it as:

  • “I need to upgrade the platform if I care about the workloads I’m running.”

195 wasn’t a random number.
It was a felt threshold:

  • below it, my brain and body felt aligned;
  • above it, I was permanently slightly behind.

What Actually Changed Between 210 and 195

The external changes were simple:

  • walking consistently,
  • eating with more intent,
  • sleeping like it mattered,
  • taking stress management seriously.

The internal changes were more interesting:

  • Cognitive clarity.
    Long sequences of reasoning — RFS field behavior, AIDF proofs, MAIA schema design, LQL/LEF interactions — got easier to sustain without losing the thread.

  • Emotional regulation.
    The gap between “I see a problem” and “I react too hard” widened.
    I had more space to choose my response.

  • Load tolerance.
    A heavy day didn’t wipe me out to the same degree.
    I could hit the same pressures and bounce back faster.

  • Pattern recognition speed.
    The constant low‑level fatigue at 210 blurred edges.
    At 195, patterns snapped into place faster — in systems, in people, in myself.

None of that made me a different person.
It just removed overhead.

The same instincts — structure, systems, early failure detection — had more room to operate.


Why This Matters for the Systems I Build

The stack I’m building is not trivial:

  • AIDF demands deep focus on semantics and proofs.
  • RFS requires holding field interactions and governance in your head.
  • MAIA/TAI design requires emotional nuance and structural rigor.
  • LQL/LEF/CAIO require keeping chemistry and physics analogies straight while still shipping code.

Trying to do that with:

  • poor sleep,
  • inconsistent movement,
  • higher baseline inflammation,

was like:

  • running a high‑frequency trading system on a Raspberry Pi.

Could you technically do it? Maybe.
Should you? No.

The shift to 195 was about:

  • respecting the complexity of the work enough to configure the hardware appropriately.

I don’t see:

  • health,
  • cognitive work,
  • emotional availability,

as separate lanes anymore.
They’re one architecture.

If I compromise the base, the stack above it suffers — including the systems other people may one day depend on.


The Fatherhood Angle: Why This Isn’t Vanity

My kids don’t care about my weight as a number.
They care about:

  • whether I’m present,
  • whether I’m patient,
  • whether I can show up consistently,
  • whether they can trust my behavior under stress.

At 210, I could love them just as much.
But the system was noisier:

  • more tired,
  • more reactive,
  • more variance day to day.

At 195, the same intent has more room:

  • I can sit with hard conversations longer,
  • I can absorb more emotional load without snapping,
  • I can adjust plans without immediately hitting my personal limit.

This isn’t about looking a certain way.
It’s about:

  • being the kind of steady, structurally sound presence I want them to have as a reference point.

If tuning my body gives me more capacity to do that, it’s not vanity.
It’s part of the architecture of our home.


Where This Leaves Us

I’m not prescribing 195 lbs for anyone else.
Bodies are different. Contexts are different.

What I am saying is:

  • if the work in front of you is non‑trivial,
  • and the people depending on you matter,
  • you can’t treat your physical configuration as an afterthought.

For me:

  • 195 lbs with daily movement, good sleep, and stress structure
    is the configuration where my brain does what I know it’s capable of, consistently.

Above that, the friction cost is too high.

The AI systems I’m building and the life I’m trying to run through them are both long‑horizon projects.

I don’t want to build architectures that can theoretically survive 10 years while living in a body that’s optimized for three‑month sprints.

So I treat 195 not as an achievement, but as:

  • a system requirement.

Everything else — the work, the writing, the parenting — sits on top of that base.
